RM1468   Aragonite
Ca(CO3)
  -  5. Carbonides and nitrates

A classic of Spanish mineralogy. Pantoja aragonites are known for their arrangement in the cavities of this gray marl, forming groups of prismatic crystals in divergent aggregates and with intense fluorescence under UV-LW light. In this specimen crystals have a very good size and are presented in several cavities in the matrix.

Size: 10.0 x 7.2 x 5.4 cm.
Main crystal: 30 mm diam. aggr.
Fluorescent under long wave UV

RM1467   Kernite

This huge size kernite specimen is formed by some glassy and translucent cleavage crystals. It is a rare borate, named after the namesake California county where it was discovered. It is extremely rare in sharp crystals. These crystals are not formed in the borate deposit itself, but rather in the tanks that are used to dissolve the borax. Every few years the tanks are shut down for maintenance. Kernite and primary tincalconite crystals are found growing on the large stirring blades and the walls of the tank. From the former Renaud Vochten collection (label will be send to the buyer).

Size: 9.8 x 7.5 x 4.2 cm.
Found in 1986.
Ex-col. Renaud Vochten.

RM1455   Boltwoodite with calcite
(K,Na)(UO2)(SiO3OH)·1.5H2O

A elongated vug lined with small calcite crystals on which are scatterd some radial clusters of acicular yellow to orange crystals of boltwoodite. This specimen is labeled as Rössing mine but during many years excellent boltwoodite samples were labeled as "Rössing" and thus confused with the Rössing Uranium mine in the area (which never produced any boltwoodite specimens). The correct locality is Goanikontes, a uranium claim 4 km SE of Goanikontes and 27 km E of Swakopmund, at a distance of 40 km from the Rössing Uranium Mine.

Size: 5.3 x 4.3 x 3.0 cm.
Main crystal: 4 mm.
Found in 1990's
Fluorescent under long wave UV

RM1454   Metatorbernite with smoky quartz

Group of isolated and very sharp metatorbernite crystals, with an intense green grass color, showing the combination of the first and the second order dipyramids, truncated by pinacoidal faces. Its intense color gives a nice contrast with the white quartz matrix. We could say that this locality is included in the most worldwide important torbernite localities due to the crystal quality, size and multiple habits. Rare on the market.

They're accompanied by numerous yellow metavoltine/copiapite crystals, along with minor fibrous halotrichite. Note that under the magnifying glass we can navigate in a world of brilliant crystals, some of which of krausite species (yellowish to grey transparent). We left this identification pleasure to the collector. Regarding its environmental stability, this sample has been stored during more than six years without further alteration.

RM1436   Ettringite with Manganite

Group of well developed ettringite crystals showing a pseudohexagonal prism, rich in terminal faces. This specimen has a rare toasted honey tone for the species and it is believed to be due to exposure to sunlight out of the mine. This sample is accompanied by many sharp manganite crystals, very brilliant, some twinned, and with an intense black color. An unusual specimen for this classic mine collected in 1985.

Size: 2.3 x 2.2 x 1.4 cm.

It is accompanied by small rhombohedral calcite crystals and some crystals of pyrite totally pseudomorphed by goethite. Very fluorescent. On a matrix with quartz crystals. Samples with this fine quality are very difficult to find, considering that the quarry is closed to the collectors and the works have been interrupted. From a classic locality.
