Aggregates of tabular siderite crystals, with greenish tones, which are disposed on a matrix with small crystals of quartz, galena and baryte. The sample comes from this classic Almeria mine where it is not easy to find specimens of siderite with this quality. From the Aleydis Soliveres collection.

RM3363   Clinohumite and spinel

Clinohumite specimens from the Sierra de Mijas are a classic of Spanish mineralogy. These specimens are treated using chemical processes to make the crystals emerge in the marble matrix. They are accompanied by dark violet octahedral crystals of spinel. Clinohumite is a member of the humite group. It forms a continuous series with hydroxyclinohumite. The name "clinohumite" has commonly been used when the F/OH ratio has not been determined. Mijas is a magnesium skarn embedded in marble and pelitic gneiss, amphibolites and granulitic gneiss, in the contact zone with alpine peridotites-serpentinites (Sierra de Mijas).

RM3148   Djurleite, Chalcocite

Las Cruces mine, northwest of Seville, is an example of mining in the Iberian Pyrite Belt. But it must be said that minerals those have been found there are not at all common in other deposits of this geological megastructure. Exceptional specimens of chalcocite and djurleite stand out from this mine. This specimen we offer is a magnificent specimen of the latter species, djurleite (an orthorhombic copper sulfide). We can observe aggregates formed by several idiomorphic crystals with octahedral shape and a metallic gray luster. They are disposed on a matrix formed by other copper and iron sulfides. As is usual in these specimens and has already been indicated in previous studies, these crystals may correspond to phases of djurleite/chalcocite. In this case we have carried out an X-ray diffraction that confirms it is djurleite.

Size: 4.2 x 3.3 x 2.5 cm.

These specimens are a classic from Las Herrerías mine, and they appeared many years ago. In this piece we can observe a cavity in the rock partially filled with silver foliaceous aggregates, kongsbergite variety, very brilliant and with a silver color with bronze reflections and bluish iridescence, characteristic for the species. This aesthetic and historical specimen has been analyzed and the result will be sent to the buyer. It belongs from the Rolando Gallina mineral collection (Italy).

This is a very good sized specimen of hematite from the group of mines called "Monte de Hierro" (Iron Hill), whose concessions were between the terms of San Nicolás del Puerto and Constantina, although most of the surface is found in the first municipality mentioned. This specimen belongs from the Trigo collection (Mataró) and according to the label it was extracted in 1989 by Julián García.

Sulphur specimens from Conil (Cádiz, Andalucía) are highly valued among mineral collectors on the Iberian Peninsula. In this specimen we can see various sulfur aggregates, one of them in the form of a dipyramidal crystal. They are disposed in cavities lined with calcite. The banding of the matrix is perfectly observed. A classic locality for fine crystallized sulfur specimens since 18th century. Probably the area has been worked since Roman times. Very difficult to see in the market. Interesting video of sulphur mines from Conil [video].
