RM560   Spinel

This is a nice spinel crystal from Katukubura, very rare to find in the market. This sample shows a very brilliant crystal of spinel, incredibly defined, with very marked octahedron shape. In a matrix of calcite. These crystals are known in gemmological context as "ceylonite". From a not well represented mining area.

Calcite specimens from la Florida mines are known and valued worldwide. In this sample we have a complex twinned escalenohedron, "doubly terminated", with combination with the rhombohedron. Transparence is excellent, with defined striated faces and delicate edges. It has a delicate yellow color.
These
specimens appeared accompanied by dolomite, at level 6 of this mine. A huge size and excellent specimen from this classic Spanish locality.

Ba(SO4)

Excellent specimen formed by several groups of transparent tabular barite crystals forming globular aggregates, with transparence, brilliance and very sharp faces and edges. Very aesthetically disposed on a fluorite cubic crystals matrix with yellow color and transparence. Accompanied by dolomite saddle-shaped crystals and chalcopyrite. A Spanish classic of the best quality.

Zn2(AsO4)(OH)

A very rich group of cuprian adamite pseudooctahedral crystals. Well defined faces and edges, excellent brilliance and a green color with bluish tones. Disposed covering a vug on the limonite matrix. Just this specimen was published in mindat and labelled as cuprian austinite, but further analysis indicate that they were cuprian adamite. An excellent specimen.

Excellent and rich group of prismatic zinkenite crystals, some of them with a good size, with striated faces, with a huge size chalcocite crystal with planar to curved terminal faces. Good metallic luster and well disposed on a vug with lenticular siderite crystals. Usually they occurs covered by calcite. A hig quality specimen from this species and locality.

On a matrix covered by small dolomite and some calcite crystals is disposed in a very aerial shape a huge size calcite crystal. It shows well defined faces and edges and the rotation twin. It is not a doubly terminated crystal, it is a 180º twinned crystals. Complete and no damage. With a tastefull silky luster and translucent. A delicate yellowish tone increases its aesthetics on the white matrix. It is not common see these specimens from this classic Spanish mine.

Group of very sharp fluorite crystals showing cubic forms and trapezohedron faces on some vertexs. Well defined faces and edges, transparent to translucent. Yellow color is uniforms, with curious internal colorless structures, and some siderite crystals on them. A huge size specimen from this French mine.

When quarry worked lower levels fluorite appeared in fresh granite matrix, but mostly without this depth of color. A great speciemen. A classic between classics of our country.

A classic between classics of our country. This is a druse of fluorite crystals those, at first glance, seem just octahedra, but if you take a look carefully you will see vertices truncated by cube. Some crystals show parallel growth and other are interpenetrated. Good transparence and exceptional green color. Acompanied by small quartz crystals.

Fantastic cuprosklodowskite specimen formed by several thin acicular prismatic crystals with a brilliant green to yellow color, very brilliant and transparent. Crystals have grown in cavities covered by dark green malachite. In one of them we can enjoy a great aesthetic group of tabular barite crystals, with toasted honey color and transparent, on which a beautiful acicular aggregate of cuprosklodowskite has grown. A small beauty.
This speciemn of uranyl
and copper silicate is from Musonoi, not Kalongwe. A complete sample.

Ca(UO2)2(PO4)2·10-12H2O

Rosettes of sharp hexagonal tabular autunite crystals, interpenetrated between them and some isolated. The intense yellow color is characteristic of the species. Crystals are disposed on a pegmatite matrix. This is a sample extracted from Vénachat area late 70's and comes from a reduced extension pegmatite field embedded in granite, near Compreignac. Traces of workings from the 19th century can be found, beside an open pit worked for uranium by COGEMA in 1982-1987. A good quality French historical specimen.

Group of two apophyllite-(KF) crystals showing perfect tetragonal prism faces, well developed, with the dipyramid and pinacoid. The edges are very sharp and the faces have some striation. Translucent and slightly green color zoning, more intense in the crystal core. Faces are peppered by small white calcite crystals that have grown mostly in some orientated faces, probably due to water circulation. It is a very aesthetic miniature. On a matrix of very brilliant crystals of stilbite.

These specimens were found in 2006 in a small Indian village, when they were drilling a water well. They found a cavity totally covered with them. There is an interesting article in the Mineralogical Record magazine (39:267-273).

Groups of sharp marcasite crystals, very brilliant, showing the classic forms of "cockscomb". Very stable, defined and partially covering a matrix of small crystals of sphalerite. This matrix presents the known "schalenblende". It is formed by compact sphalerite and wurtzite masses of a pale brown colour, occurring in concentric layers with reniform surfaces which also may contain pyrite and galena. It is believed to have formed by crystallization of a rich-sulfide colloidal dispersion. Good size and aesthetic specimen.

Groups of very sharp magnetite crystals showing octahedral forms with staggered epitaxial growths on faces. Intense metallic luster, color is deep black and very sharp faces and edges. It is accompanied by green epidote crystals, brilliant and transparent; prismatic crystals of diopside (more grayish green tone), andradite and some clinochlore. A complete gemmy specimen.

In this specimen we can observe different groups of pyromorphite crystals showing hexagonal prisms, some of them truncated by the pinacoid and others more acute. The green tone is presented in some crystals with good transparence and color zoning, while others are almost colorless.
In the town of Munébrega were worked some mines where sulphosalts were exploted. Currently they are collapsed. A specimen from a not common Spanish locality.
