RM3767   Carlhintzeite
Ca₂[AlF₆]F·H₂O
  -  3. Halides

A recent novelty. In this specimen, we can observe radial globular aggregates formed by carlhintzeite crystals—ranging from tabular to acicular—very sharp, transparent, and showing a yellowish to colorless hue. As is customary, we proceeded to analyze several specimens and observed that the transparent crystals displaying these tabular habits are also carlhintzeite, with the shade varying from yellow to colorless within the same crystal.

Some specimens are accompanied by transparent creedite crystals, which exhibit distinct prismatic forms. Both species are halides, but creedite contains sulfur from its sulfate group, allowing us to identify it via electron microscopy as well. We will include the analytical results for the buyer of the specimen.

Size: 6.8 x 4.5 x 2.2 cm.
Main crystal: 5.6 mm. aggr.

RM3096   Cuprodongchuanite, hemimorphite and veszelyite

Cuprodongchuanite is a mineral species with the formula Pb4CuZn2(PO4)4(OH)2 that has been approved very recently (IMA No. 2021-065); is the copper analogue of dongchuanite (IMA No. 2021-058) with the formula  Pb4ZnZn2(PO4)4(OH)2. Both species form a series and belong to the dongchuanite group, together with the zheshengite Pb4ZnZn2(AsO4)2(PO4)2(OH)2 and the cuprozheshengite Pb4CuZn2(AsO4)2(PO4)2(OH)2. Distinguishing one species from another is only possible by elemental analysis. For this reason these specimens have been analyzed by SEM-EDS.

In this specimen we have determined the cuprodongchuanite. The presence of As is detected in all the specimens studied, which would indicate that we are in a term of the series with cuprozheshengite. It would be correct to label it cuprodongchuanite-cuprozheshengite. It appears as light green globular aggregates on the colorless hemimorphite. The bluish color on the specimen is veszelyite.

The bluish color of the specimen is due to the fact that the hemimorphite covers veszelyite crystals.
