RM3463   Rhodochrosite, quartz and fluorite

A large group of rhodochrosite crystals, with pointed scalenohedron shapes but with striated faces and a very aesthetic pearly luster. The pink-red colour is more intense inside the crystals. It seems that a second generation of rhodochrosite has covered the primary crystals. It is accompanied by crystals of hyaline quartz, together with colourless, well-defined fluorite cubes with opaline faces, except at the vertices, a curious geometry. Aesthetic piece.

Size: 6.2 x 5.5 x 3.6 cm.
Main crystal: 3.5 mm.

RM3492   Ferberite, Quartz
FeWO₄
  -  7. Sulfates, chromates, molybdates and wolframates

In this specimen, we can see numerous tabular ferberite crystals with a very unusual orientated parallel growth. Very lustrous and intensely black in color, they are arranged on a matrix of clear quartz crystals. This specimen comes from the Nicolau collection (Barcelona) and was acquired from Dr. Joan Viñals.

RM3528   Heulandite-Ca

Lovely orange groups of highly lustrous heulandite crystals. Crystals form together beautifully to create these highly aesthetic clusters of unusually orange crystals. Lustre is fantastic for the species.

RM3476   Andradite
Ca3Fe3+2(SiO4)3
  -  9. Silicates

Group of andradite crystals, which show us very well defined faces of the dodecahedron truncated at the edges by those of the trapezohedron. It has an intense brown color and a more marked shine on the trapezohedron faces. Specimen from this classic Russian town that is rare today.

RM3399   Pyromorphite and baryte
Pb₅(PO₄)₃Cl
  -  8. Phosphates, arsenates and vanadates

Amazing aggregate of prismatic pyromorphite crystals on a baryte matrix. Many of the crystals are doubly terminated and have a good size. They shows slightly curved faces and edges, are a very brilliant olive-green color on the prism with intense yellow tips. On a baryte matrix with galena (not in quartz as the label indicates). This shape is highly appreciated by collectors. This classic French specimen was purchased by a collector to Fabre Minerals.

Size: 11.6 × 8.5 × 3.5 cm.
Main crystal: 1 × 0.6 cm.

RM3053   Opal-AN, var. hyalite, on andesite
SiO₂·nH₂O
  -  0.

These specimens come from an andesite quarry located in NE Hungary. This quarry is worked by Colas Északkő Co. In year 2013, hyaline beautiful specimens of opal were collected. In the quarry explosives are used to excavate the rocks, so most of the specimes dissapears. From summer 2015 access is not permitted, but some specimens were collected before... These facts make it difficult to see good samples of this quality.
Hyalite opal (opal-AN) aggregates (crown shaped) are completely transparent, like drops of water, with an exceptional brightness. They are highly fluorescent under shortwave UV and also under longwave. Sometimes they accompanied by globular aggregates of calcite-aragonite. They are disposed very aerial on a porous matrix of andesite.

Size: 6.9 x 6.3 x 4.4 cm.
Found in ±2015.

RM3552   Pyrite after Pyrrhotite, Quartz and Sphalerite

In this specimen, we can observe several hexagonal pyrrhotite crystals that have been completely replaced by pyrite. The luster is very good, and they stand out in a matrix formed by numerous quartz crystals. With black sphalerite. A very interesting and aesthetic pseudomorphosis.

RM3478   Rhodochrosite, Calcite, Chalcopyrite and Quartz

In this specimen, we can observe numerous rosette-shaped aggregates formed by lenticular rhodochrosite crystals, with a faint pink hue that contrasts with a matrix composed of numerous quartz and calcite crystals, some of them flattened rhombohedrons. It is accompanied by several faceted crystals of brilliant chalcopyrite. A highly aesthetic specimen from this classic Kosovo mine.

RM3556   Anatase
TiO2

The anatase crystals from this Norwegian locality are a classic of world mineralogy. They are notable for their size. In this specimen, we see a crystal formed by a tetragonal bipyramid truncated at the vertices by pinacoids. Growth contacts and some small chips can be observed, but they do not detract from the quality of the specimen. It is disopsed very aerial on a small quartz matrix.

RM3474   Dravite

The Yinnietharra dravite crystals are a classic of world mineralogy. Nowadays they are not common and can only be obtained from old collections that were lucky enough to be formed when the mines were worked. This specimen shows us a good group of doubly terminated dravite crystals, with very defined faces and edges, shiny and with the characteristic toasted honey color. They are accompanied by muscovite. An AMAZING specimen!!!
