RM2487   Willemite with rhodochrosite and franklinite
More photos

A really good sized specimen in which we highlight various orange willemite crystals, the main one is doubly terminated. They are included in rhodochrosite and on a matrix with franklinite crystals. This specimen is from the Renaud Vochten collection. The intense fluorescence of willemite stands out with a yellowish-green emission under short-wave ultraviolet light. Renaud F.C. Vochten (8 December 1933 - 29 July 2012), professor of mineralogy at the State University of Antwerpen (Belgium), with a species dedicated: vochtenite [link].

Size: 11.1 x 7.5 x 6.7 cm.
Main crystal: 1.8 cm.
Found in ca. 1989.

Col. Renaud F.C. Vochten (Bélgica).
Fluorescent under short wave UV

RM1277   Willemite with calcite

In this specimen we can enjoy some willemite prismatic crystals with good size, included in a matrix of white calcite. Willemite usually presents yellow-green fluorescence under shortwave UV light. Calcite from Franklin also highlights for the intense red fluorescence. A very interesting piece.

Size: 6.5 x 5.4 x 3.7 cm.
Main crystal: 27 x 14 mm.

Fluorescent under short wave UV

RM722   Franklinite with willemite and calcite
More photos

This specimen is notable for several reasons. On the one hand a very nice franklinite octahedron, an unusual iron and zinc oxide, with good size, and curved and brilliant faces (17 x 17 mm). On the back side it has some fractures that allow us see the metallic luster. On a matrix of calcite. On the other hand, we have a doubly terminated prismatic crystal of willemite, also with good size (17 x 10 mm). Willemite species usually presents fluorescence, and in this case, under shortwave UV light (also in the longwave UV), it has an intense yellowish green color. Calcite from Franklin is also notable for the intense red-orange fluorescence. In one specimen we have two species with good crystals and size.

Size: 4,5 x 3,7 x 2,8 cm.

Fluorescent under LW-UV and SW-UV lights
