A striking specimen composed of numerous prismatic, highly faceted cassiterite crystals with exceptional luster and translucency, displaying a honeyed hue. This is an excellent old specimen from the little-known Seal Hole mine in Cornwall. A very showy and uncommon specimen in this mine.
Specimen very rich in cassiterite crystals, very bright, richly faceted and of an intense dark brown color. The specimen has been repaired without affecting the interest of the specimen, from my point of view. A very interesting piece from these tin mines of the St Agnes mining district, an English classic.
An old-time pseudomorph from the St. Austell District of Cornwall. A very sharp, doubly terminated, Carlsbad-twinned orthoclase crystal has been pseudomorphed by kaolinite. Great old classic material from Cornwall. The piece, adquired to Bailey, is from the collection of Joan Astor and comes with his label.
An interesting specimen of turquoise (variety rashleighite) from the Cornwall mines. Formerly, rashleighite was an approved species, now it is defined as a turquoise with a certain iron content, intermediate between chalcosiderite and turquoise. This sample shows a sky blue crust aggregates, with cavities with crystals and a quartz matrix. A Cornish classic from the collection of Joan Astor (Barcelona) and, previously, from Martín Oliete (Madrid), a well-known systematic collector.
I purchased this specimen more than 10 years ago to the dissapeared dealer Baikal Geo (Madrid). It consists in a rich group of fibrous to prismatic aggregates of brilliant, transparent to white cerussite on a goethite matrix. This specimen is labeled from Trevellance mine, a very old Cornish mine worked for some time during the 1840s. Very interesting specimen from a rare English locality.
Brilliant group of chalcopyrite crystals, twinned and with complex forms, but with well defined faces and edges. The golden color, with iridescence, indicates that it is a "old" specimen. The piece comes from an interesting and classic English locality where few chalcopyrite specimens are known with this quality. These specimens were obtained at the beginning of XX century, it is a very "old" mineralogical sample from Clemens A. Winkler, german chemist who discovered the Germanium.
