Gerty mine, Badajoz, Extremadura, Spain

Aesthetic vanadinite specimen, really good for the locality. We can observe crowned prismatic crystals with color zonació and intense brightness. An interesting article on MR: Leon, M. and Liso, M.J. (1996): Vanadinite from the Gerty Mine Badajoz Spain. Mineralogical Record, 27(5), 381-384.

Nazarena Mine, Almuradiel, Ciudad Real, Castilla-La Mancha

Radial aggregates of stibnite crystals, very brilliant and in the rocky matrix. We can see some flattened crystals. Of this old mine where today it is difficult to find pieces.

RM2019   Coronadite

Taouz area, Filon 12, Taouz, Er Rachidia, Meknès-Tafilalet, Morocco

Excellent stalactitic coronadite specimen, analyzed by SEM-EDS, with rounded shapes, intense gray almost black. Good size. From this classic locality for Moroccan mineralogy. With yellowish goethite matrix. You can find more information about this species and locality in the Rosell Minerals blog.

A very aerial malachite aggregate, showing fibrous crystals, intense colour, with zoning, and good luster. On a matrix with dolomite small crystals. A very aesthetic specimen from this classic Moroccan mines.

RM1979   Vanadinite with Baryte

Coud'a area, Mibladen, Khénifra, Meknès-Tafilalet, Morocco

Floater specimen. Excelent group of vanadinite crystals showing a defined hexagonal shape, with very well defined faces and edges, intense red color. Good brilliance and some transparence, with internal reflections between red and orange. Crystals size is remarkable. A piece with two faces. One of them, crystals are disposed in an isolated way on a barite lenticular rosette crystals. In the other, they are forming rich crystalline groups. The presence of this baryte matrix is highly appreciated by collectors and gives to the specimen a special aesthetics.

Druse of fluorite crystals, with cube shapes, translucent and of a green color. They are partially covered by small quartz crystals that show forms of corrosion. With intense fluorescence activity under LW-UV light. Very curious. From the Manchion Collection.

A nice azurite miniature, with good brightness, intense color and sprinkled with malachite rosettes. An aesthetic old piece from this classic Moroccan locality.

Touissit, Touissit-Bou Beker, Jerada, Oriental Region, Morocco

Aesthetic group of sharp anglesite crystals, very brilliant, transparent and richly faceted. They are disposed on a matrix of galena. An old specimen from the Manchion Collection, very luminous, from this classic Moroccan town.

Berg Aukas Mine, Grootfontein, Otjozondjupa, Namibia

Aesthetic group of several descloizite crystals. Every one of these group of crystals is a group of little crystals of slightly curved edges, a typical shape in the classic samples from Namibia. Intense brilliance a deep color. From this former Sapnish collection.

RM2021   Actinolite

Otjiwarongo District, Otjozondjupa, Namibia

Actinolite crystals are not usual with this size and definition. The specimen shows well-defined forms of the prism and monoclinic pinacoids, with the back side exfoliated. Intense green, almost black. A sample not usual for the species. It was determined that it is not an epidote, with which it could be confused, by Raman spectroscopy.

RM1993   Smithsonite with adamite

Ojuela mine, Mapimí, Municipio de Mapimí, Durango, Mexico

Very, very aesthetic specimen, unusual, showing two globular aggregates of smithsonite, colorless, transparent that let us see a whitish crystal aggregate core, with very curious growth. They are accompanied by small crystals of the same species in the form of globular grains. To give a touch of color and quality, several aggregates of olive green adamite crystals, visible terminal faces, bright, translucent and sprinkling the goethite matrix. It is an exceptional and rare old material from the Manchion Collection. Probably this specimen comes from the Palomas Oriente area of the mine. Pure aesthetics... Rich group of danburite crystals, transparent to translucent, with developed prism and defined faces and edges. Some with nicks in the terminal parts, but without affecting the whole. They are disposed on a matrix with pyrite and sphalerite crystals. Brightness, snowy white, very aesthetic and ancient specimen.

RM2000   Hydroxylerderite with muscovite and albite

Córrego Frio mine, Linópolis, Divino das Laranjeiras, Minas Gerais, Brazil

A classic old-time specimen of hydroxylherderite, well crystallized, with sharp translucent idiomorphic monoclinic crystals. Lustrous and with a greenish-yellow tone. Associated with albite and muscovite from the Golconda pegmatite in Brazil. From Manchion Col., purchased in 1987 to Dr. Joan Viñals. Previously misidentified as herderite. Previamente mal identificada como herderita.

A classic old-time specimen of hydroxylherderite, well crystallized, with sharp translucent idiomorphic monoclinic crystals. Lustrous and with a greenish-yellow tone. RM1996   Lepidolite

Golconda pegmatites, Governador Valadares, Minas Gerais, Brazil

Good sized rounded, globular crystals of lilac-pink lepidolite. This formation is also known as ball-peen lepidolite after the resemblance to the round end of a ball-peen hammer. Lepidolite is a Li-rich member of the series between polylithionite and trilithionite. A very aesthetic specimen from Manchion Collection.

Group of rhodochrosite crystals with a uniform pink color, with well-defined rhombohedron echeloned and scalenohedron forms. Good gemmy transparence. They are accompanied by other smaller rhodo crystals. On a solid matrix with fluorite, quartz crystals with inclusions and manganese oxides.

RM2040   Roweite with Johnbaumite and andradite

Shijiangshan mine, Linxi, Linxi Co., Ulanhad League, Inner Mongolia, China

Fan-shaped aggregates of excellent roweite crystals, beige orange colour, defined, good size and with quality for this species. Roweite is a rare calcium and manganese borate. They are accompanied by white hexagonal prismatic crystals of johnbaumite, up to 7 mm, excellent for the species. Johnbaumite is a very rare calcium arsenate, the arsenic analog of hydroxylapatite. In a matrix with green andradite and transparent colorless pentahydroborite. A very complete specimen, with very rare and well crystallized species.

RM2017   Fluorapophyllite-(K) on heulandite-Ca

Pashan quarries, Pashan, Poonah, Maharashtra, India

Excellent specimen of fluorapophyllite-(K) formed by several crystals, very aerial disposed and transparent, with an intense green color, and tetragonal forms of the prism and the dipyramid very visible, with parallel growths. They are disposed contrasting with a snowy white matrix of lanceolated crystals of heulandite-Ca. A gemmy specimen.

Qualat-e-Balat salt dome, Bandar Abbas, Hormozgan, Iran

Very sharp single zunyite crystal with good luster, coloured by red hematite inclusions and with some small brilliant foliaceous hematite partially included in faces. Very clean tetrahedron form, truncated by cubic faces. Tetrahedron edge is 15 mm. A good sized and perfect crystallographic specimen of this unusual species, a rare sorosilicate of aluminum and chlorine, with fluorine. New finding in Iran.

Very sharp zunyite crystal with good luster, coloured by red hematite inclusions and with some small brilliant foliaceous hematite partially included in faces. Very clean tetrahedron form, truncated by cube faces. Tetrahedron edge is 12 mm. Disposed very aerial on the hematite matrix. A good sized and perfect crystallographic specimen of this species, a rare sorosilicate of aluminum and chlorine, with fluorine. . New finding in Iran.
