RM2013   Anatase with quartz

Moro Quarry, Oteruelo de la Valduerna, Santiago de Millas, León, Castilla y León, Spain

Druse of small quartz crystals, some doubly terminated, partially covered by white kaolinite. Peppered by several anatase crystals, with dipyramidal faces, truncated by basal pinacoid. Very sharp, translucent and with a toasted honey tone. Very aesthetic and rare in the market.
It is interesting to say that recent analysis of the reddish ashlars of the Torre Nueva (New Tower) of the Astorga cathedral indicated that these building materials were extracted from this Cantera del Moro during XVIIth and XVIIIth centuries.

RM1996   Lepidolite

Golconda pegmatites, Governador Valadares, Minas Gerais, Brazil

Good sized rounded, globular crystals of lilac-pink lepidolite. This formation is also known as ball-peen lepidolite after the resemblance to the round end of a ball-peen hammer. Lepidolite is a Li-rich member of the series between polylithionite and trilithionite. A very aesthetic specimen from Manchion Collection.

RM2011   Schorl

Cap de Creus, Cadaqués - El Port de la Selva, Girona, Catalunya, Spain

Good schorl specimen from the clssic locality of Cap de Creus, Girona. Some crystals showing a developed and faceted prism and terminal faces, some of them with good thickness. From this locality it is very difficult to obtain specimens if they do not appear in old collections, as it is the case, since it is totally forbidden to collect specimens in the area. This one belongs from the Manchion Collection and it is accompanied by the handwritten label.

RM2009   Vesuvianite

Can Montsant mines, Hortsavinyà, Tordera, Maresme, Catalunya, Spain

These mines are located in the heart of Massís del Montnegre, in Catalunya, and it is a classic for mineral collectors. The "vesuvianas" are found mainly in the outer zone of the mines. In this old specimen we can enjoy a radial aggregate of vesuvianite crystals, of good size and with the beige-greenish color that characterizes them in this locality. In a small vug we can see greenish transparent and well formed crystals of the species.

Touissit, Touissit-Bou Beker, Jerada, Oriental Region, Morocco

Aesthetic group of sharp anglesite crystals, very brilliant, transparent and richly faceted. They are disposed on a matrix of galena. An old specimen from the Manchion Collection, very luminous, from this classic Moroccan town.

RM2006   Tremolite

Pic de l'Infern (Hell's Peak), Queralbs, Girona, Catalunya, Spain

Radiated aggregates of Tremolite from this classic Catalan locality. Specimens were found in a Cambrian-Ordovician marbles with calc-silicate levels. Outcrops at an altitude of 2700-2800 m, near Pic de l'Infern (Hell's Peak), 2870 m.

RM2010   Bournonite and sphalerite

Mine des Cèdres, Saint-Laurent-le-Minier, Les Malines, Gard, France

Specimen formed by cyclic twins of bournonite, with gray metallic luster. Theyu have rounded faces and edges, good luster and is disposeded on a matrix of defined crystals of sphalerite toasted honey to black tones. A classic from this French mine.

In this old specimen from Manchion collection we can observe several octahedral gahnite crystals with defined faces and edges, a uniform deep blue color and accompanied by yellowish sphalerite. Such samples are very difficult to obtain and only from time to time appears a classic like this, only from old collections.

RM2000   Hydroxylerderite with muscovite and albite

Córrego Frio mine, Linópolis, Divino das Laranjeiras, Minas Gerais, Brazil

A classic old-time specimen of hydroxylherderite, well crystallized, with sharp translucent idiomorphic monoclinic crystals. Lustrous and with a greenish-yellow tone. Associated with albite and muscovite from the Golconda pegmatite in Brazil. From Manchion Col., purchased in 1987 to Dr. Joan Viñals. Previously misidentified as herderite. Previamente mal identificada como herderita.

RM1998   Greenockite

Berta quarry, El Papiol - Sant Cugat del Vallès, Barcelona, Catalunya, Spain

Curious specimen of greenockite of this classic locality of the Catalan mineralogy. Under loupe, aggregates of intense yellow color are observed, with reflections of what could be crystalline faces. This cadmium sulphide is a product of the alteration of rich Cd sphalerite. It is impossible to get specimens today.

Rich group of danburite crystals, transparent to translucent, with developed prism and defined faces and edges. Some with nicks in the terminal parts, but without affecting the whole. They are disposed on a matrix with pyrite and sphalerite crystals. Brightness, snowy white, very aesthetic and ancient specimen.

RM1991   Almandine with schorl and feldspar

Cap de Creus, Cadaqués - El Port de la Selva, Girona, Catalunya, Spain

An old piece from el Cap de Creus (Creus Cape), in Girona. It presents different almandine crystals, with colour between pink to orange, some altered, others faceted, which are included in a matrix of pegmatite. They are accompanied by black schorl. Nowadays it is forbidden to collect anything in that area and it is difficult to find available pieces.

Rich group of sharp isolated octahedral fluorite crystals, from translucent to transparent. They show an interesting slight apple green color. They are accompanied by small quartz crystals. On a granite matrix. This matrix is classic for modern specimens and comes from low levels of the Berta quarry.

Aesthetic group of several descloizite crystals. Every one of these group of crystals is a group of little crystals of slightly curved edges, a typical shape in the classic samples from Namibia. Intense brilliance a deep color. From this former Sapnish collection.

Qualat-e-Balat salt dome, Bandar Abbas, Hormozgan, Iran

Very sharp zunyite crystal with good luster, coloured by red hematite inclusions and with some small brilliant foliaceous hematite partially included in faces. Very clean tetrahedron form, truncated by cube faces. Tetrahedron edge is 15 mm. Disposed very aerial on the hematite matrix. A good sized and perfect crystallographic specimen of this rare species, a rare sorosilicate of aluminum and chlorine, with fluorine. New finding in Iran.

Very sharp zunyite crystals with good luster, coloured by red hematite inclusions and with some small brilliant foliaceous hematite partially included in faces. Very clean tetrahedron form, truncated by cube faces. Both tetrahedron edges are 10 mm long. They are disposed very aerial on the hematite matrix. A good sized and perfect crystallographic specimen of this unusual species, a rare sorosilicate of aluminum and chlorine, with fluorine. New finding in Iran.
