RM1166 Galena with fluorite and quartz
Fontsante Mine, Saint-Augustin filón/vein, Tanneron, Var, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, FranceGalena crystal on fluorite from Fontsante. The cube crystal is truncated by octahedron faces. It shows a bluish color due to the natural iridescence. Perfectly disposed on a fluorite matrix covered by brilliant small quartz crystals. It was collected in the Saint-Augustin vein (known for its sulphides). It is no easy to find samples with this quality from this French locality. This former fluorite mine started works in 1919 and closed in 1987.
Size: 5.5 x 5.5 x 2.3 cm.
Main crystal: 18 x 17 mm.
Found in ca. 1980's.
