RM1569 Pyrite and quartz
Mogilata mine, Rhodope Mts, Madan, Smolyan Oblast, BulgariaFrom a Bulgarian mine rarely represented in collections we offer this interesting specimen of pyrite with very unusual cubic forms. The crystals have a tabular shape with terminal faces of the octahedron. They are very aerially disposed on a matrix with quartz crystals. A crystallographic and locality rarity.
Size: 3.5 x 3.0 x 1.8 cm.
RM658 Galena with sphalerite and chalcopyrite
Krushev dol mine, Rhodope Mts., Madan, Smolyan Oblast, BulgariaFind "different" specimens from Madan is a laborious work but, sometimes, very satisfactory. In this sample we see two galena crystals of cubic habit with slightly rounded edges and faces with rare hopper growth. To add more interest we can observe in vertices octahedron faces. Good luster, metallic gray color and disposed very aerial and aesthetics on a matrix of sphalerite crystals with several twins, polysynthetic growths on faces and excellent brilliance. Also numerous brilliant chalcopyrite crystals. A different specimen from a classic Bulgarian locality.
Size: 7,8 x 4,8 x 3,8 cm.
Main crystal: 18 x 12 mm.
Found in 2013.
RM134 Galena with Sphalerite and Quartz
Rhodope Mts., Madan, Smolyan Oblast, BulgariaA very curious group of cube-octaedral Galena crystals showing well defined edges and faces with some curved holes. Sphalerite crystals show the tetrahedron forms and honey transparences on sharp edges. Some of them are interpenetrated and covering the Galena. Really interesting specimen.
Size: 5,7 x 5,5 x 4,6 cm.
Main crystal: 1,8 x 1,5 cm.
RM132 Galena with Sphalerite
Rhodope Mts., Madan, Smolyan Oblast, BulgariaGroup of Galena crystals from an old mine in the area of Madan. This specimen shows well-developed cubic forms in staggered growth with defined edges and complex growths on faces. Its metallic luster has the original brightness of these original specimens and we decided to preserve. We would like to emphisize a group of very bright sphalerite crystals of intense honey color, near to black, showing tetrahedral forms and truncated on vertices.
This is a sample of the first specimens collected from the area of Madan and belonged to a miner collection, with no more data.
Size: 9.7 x 6.5 x 5.8 cm.
Main crystal: 2.7 x 2.5 cm.
Found in ca 1970
