RM2697   Andradite, var. melanite

La Judía Mine, Burguillos del Cerro, Badajoz, Extremadura, Spain

Andradite var. melanite (Ti-rich) from this well-known skarn deposit. Sharp, lustrous, black and brown dodecahedrons. From the former Joan Astor collection (Barcelona), with a handwritten label and typewritten box.

RM2611   Stibnite

San Antonio mine, Alburquerque, Badajoz, Extremadura, Spain

Very good size specimen formed by laminar aggregates of stibnite crystals. The San Antonio mine is located in the area called "Quinola" next to the road BA-5001 between the peoples of Alburquerque and The Codosera. This is an important antimony mine closed in 1986, and it was the largest mine of this metal in Spain and Europe. It belongs from the former Arguijo collection and dates from the 90s.

RM2610   Stibnite

San Antonio mine, Alburquerque, Badajoz, Extremadura, Spain

Very good size specimen formed by laminar aggregates of stibnite crystals. The San Antonio mine is located in the area called "Quinola" next to the road BA-5001 between the peoples of Alburquerque and The Codosera. This is an important antimony mine closed in 1986, and it was the largest mine of this metal in Spain and Europe. It belongs from the former Arguijo collection and dates from the 90s.

RM2194   Scapolite (Meionite), magnetite, epidote and actinolite

Burguillos del Cerro, Badajoz, Extremadura, Spain

Aggregates of prismatic crystals of meionite, with cross-linked and parallel growths. It is arranged in a matrix with octahedral magnetite crystals, green epidote and actinolite fibers. Joan Viñals indicated on the label of this specimen (we will send to the buyer) meionite, although specimens such as marialite are described in the area. The marialite-meionite series refers to the proportion of Na and Ca, both of the escapolite group. "Probably from the La Herrería mine where it usually appears in magnetite vugs as acicular and radial aggregates of tetragonal prisms, sometimes centimetric, whitish to transparent" (Mti-Blog).

RM2032   Vanadinite

Gerty mine, Badajoz, Extremadura, Spain

Aesthetic vanadinite specimen, really good for the locality. We can observe crowned prismatic crystals with color zonació and intense brightness. An interesting article on MR: Leon, M. and Liso, M.J. (1996): Vanadinite from the Gerty Mine Badajoz Spain. Mineralogical Record, 27(5), 381-384.

RM1661   Andradite-Grossular with magnetite and albite

Oliva de Jerez skarn, Oliva de la Frontera, Badajoz, Extremadura, Spain

Group of sharp andradite-grossular crystals, with an exceptional brilliance and a brown color, near to black. They show clear faces of the dodecahedron and the trapezohedron. Disposed on the matrix, contrasting with the white albite and small octahedral crystals of magnetite. A sample of the former Daunis collection; from a Spanish locality not well represented in collections.

RM1258   Turquoise

Cerro de las Minas, Mérida, Badajoz, Extremadura, Spain

From a recent finding in an outcrop close to the Proserpina reservoir, near of the interesting city of Mérida (Badajoz). This specimen shows small turquoise crystals forming botryoidal aggregates with a nice bluish and greenish tones, partially covered by a second generation of more yellowish crystals. We'll send a copy of the analysis to the buyer.

Brilliant and elongated gold nugget that suggests rounded and flattened subhedric crystals. It belongs from an area known till the middle of last decade for its gold nuggets. The sample shows a good size. An opportunity to add a Spanish gold to your collection. Weight: 3.49 g. / 0,1231 oz.

Brilliant gold nugget that suggests rounded subhedric crystals and a surface with concavities. It presents quartz granules as inclusion. It belongs from an area known till the middle of last decade for its gold nuggets. The sample shows a good size. An opportunity to add a Spanish gold to your collection. Weight: 2.99 g. / 0,1055 oz.

RM796   Tyuyamunite

Carija hill quarry, Mérida, Badajoz, Extremadura, Spain

This specimen shows a very rich group of small micaceous crystals of tyuyamunite, brilliant and intense yellow color, contrasting on the matrix. The piece was labeled as francevillite, but we have performed SEM-EDS analysis that refers to the tyuyamunite species. The results indicated the presence of uranium, calcium, vanadium, and few silicium, thus move away from the francevillite containing barium and lead, together with vanadium and uranium. Results will be send to the buyer. From a Spanish mine not well represented in collections.

RM681   Pseudomalachite with Reichembachite

El Novillero Mine, Cheles, Badajoz, Extremadura, Spain

A very rich pseudomalachite specimen, showing transparent lanceolated to elongated rhombohedra shape crystals. It is accompanied with a rare copper phosphate: reichenbachite. It shows globular aggregates formed by lamellar crystals with a lighter green color. They are disposed on a matrix of stalactitic goethite.


Size: 9,5 x 7,3 x 4,3 cm.
Main crystal: 1 mm.

RM621   Ferro-actinolite with magnetite and pyrite

Valuengo, Jerez de Caballeros, Badajoz, Extremadura, Spain

A very rich group of prismatic crystals of ferro-actinolite of intense green, near to black color, brilliant, defined, with flattened terminal faces and some with pyrite on them. Aesthetics is excellent and the vertical disposition of the crystals makes this piece a different sample.
They are disposed on a matrix of albite with several rounded and brilliant magnetite crystals. Also with small pyrite with complex and interesting forms. This specimen is an excellent representative for the species and more, if possible, for this Spanish locality.

In this miniature we can enjoy two sides. One is covered by several hexagonal barrel-shaped pyromorphite crystals. Some of them show parallel growths. With a color zoning that varies between grass green in the center to beige-green on terminal pinacoidal faces. In the other side, small aggregates of transparent and sharp hexagonal pyro crystals partially covered by black coronadite or growing on it. These specimens have been determined by isotopic studies with equal results to those of this mine. Very curious specimen. This sample is from an old German mineral collection.
