RM1138   Pyromorphite with goethite

Bou Iboulkhir mine, Moulay Bouazza, Khénifra, Meknès-Tafilalet, Morocco

Groups of pyromorphite crystals (analyzed), some individualized, which are disposed, with a very aesthetic contrast on a matrix of goethite. The yellowish green color is very intense, exceptional brilliance, translucent to transparent. They show defined hexagonal prisms truncated by the pinacoid, some of them insinuate the hexagonal dipyramid faces. Under magnifying glass transparency we can be seen perfectly.

They come from a Moroccan locality that once was known by the presence of pyromorphite, but not with this quality and less represented in collections. Few specimens have been presented at Sainte-Marie-aux-Mines 2015.

Size: 6.5 x 3.0 x 3.0 cm.
Main crystal: 3 x 2 mm.
Found in 04/2015.

RM1037   Twinned cerusite with barite and galena

Mine des O, Mine des O, Khénifra, Meknès-Tafilet, Morocco

In this huge size specimen we observe groups of tabular lenticular aggregates of barite with a delicate reddish tones, along with gray galena that has been almost completely substituted and covered by nice cerussite crystals. Taking a look under the microscope, cerussite shows long striated prisms terminated by pyramidal faces. Also note several cyclic star twins, well defined and spectacular. Different specimens from Mibladen.

The large mine of Les O is mined under the town of Mibladen. It has been worked during generations of miners in search of specimens, usually galena cerussite, barite and some wulfenite. Few weeks before my visit in February 2013 were found some mineralized veins and vugs with the specimens we offer. When those cavities were formed they had been filled by cube octahedral crystals of galena and barite. Due to the hydrothermal fluids galena was partially or totally corroded to favor the formation of cerussite.

Size: 9.0 x 6.8 x 2.7 cm.
Main crystal: 7 x 4 mm.
Found in 01/2013.

RM909   Phosphohedyphane with vanadinite

Taouz mine, Tadaout, Taouz, Er Rachidia, Meknès-Tafilalet, Morocco

After a trip to Morocco in 2013, we analyzed few samples of a mineral similar to mimetite species. Results indicated that it was phosphohedyphane. From the same mine we have obtained some specimens of the zone in which came out in 2013 original ones, but now they showed marked differences. After a careful analysis, results indicate that these were also phosphohedyphane, but with a different shape but similar to the pyromorphite appearance. They are covering cavities of the limonite matrix, small hexagonal crystals slightly barrel-shaped, with green to a yellowish tones. Accompanied by brilliant quartz and vanadinite, some rich in arsenic. It seems that they form part of a pyromorphite-phosphohedyphane series. Analysis results will be delivered to the buyer.

RM732   Phosphohedyphane with quartz

Taouz mine, Taouz, Er Rachidia, Meknès-Tafilalet, Morocco

These curious specimens from Taouz mine were collected in February 2013. These cavities are covered by hexagonal prismatic crystals of greenish to yellow color, opaque to translucent, forming nice aggregates. Interestingly, some of the cavities are coated by brilliant small quartz crystals, giving an excellent contrast to the specimen. Iniatilly, these crystals were identified as pyromorphite, but after new SEM-EDS analysis, we can confirm that these crystals contain calcium, with chlorine, phosphorus and lead.

RM687   Fluorapatite

Imilchil, Er Rachidia, Meknès-Tafilalet, Morocco

We have seen many gemmy fluorapatite crystals from Imilchil, with the classic prism and more or less developed dipyramid. In this specimen we have a fantastic complexity of facets for this Moroccan locality. There is an exquisite combination of dipyramids of first and second order, highly developed, and some prism faces. It reminds Alpine fluorapatite. With honey tones and on a matrix with small magnetite crystals. A very interesting rarity. Not more available...

RM627   Quartz (amethyst) with "hour glass"

Adrar Trich Boû Oudi, Tata, Guelmim-Es Semara, Morocco

These doubly quartz crystals with amethyst hour glass color zoning never are always amazing. In this specimen we see this internal color zoning and delicate and thin brown filamentous inclusions. Defined edges and faces, of course. To increase its interest, one could see some faces of the prism and rhombohedra with opalescent dull luster, while other rhombohedral faces are completely transparent and allow us to see clearly the geometric color zoning inside the crystal. On the back shows usual for these specimens recrystallized contact. A specimen to enjoy crystallography and aesthetics.

Size: 3,0 x 2, 0 x 1,2 cm.
Found in 2009.

RM596   Proustite

Mine de Bouismass, Bouismass, Bou Azzer, Ouarzazate, Souss-Massa-Draâ, Morocco

RM591   Gersdorffite

Aït Ahmane, Bou Azzer, Ouarzazate, Drâa-Tafilalet, Morocco

Group of octahedral crystals of this unusual nickel sulfoarsenide. It shows very bright faces and defined edges. The luster, tet me emphasize, is exceptional. Disposed very aerial on a matrix of calcite. This specimen has NOT been acidified to remove calcite as is usual in many specimens what may compromise their future stability. A good choice.

Size: 6,8 x 3,5 x 1,8 cm.
Main crystal: 13 x 8 mm.
